Blanche (Tooker) Bures owned and operated a grocery story at 4607 South Yakima Avenue in Tacoma, Washington
according to the 1939 and 1940 city directories. Blanche and her husband, Richard, lived behind the grocery store.
During this time period, it was a common practice for salesmen to take photographs like this of the proprietor
with their product prominently displayed. Notice the sign for George Washington Smoking Tobacco.
Her grandson remembers going with his parents, Marlon and Velma, to shop at the store.
Their children loved canned milk on their cereal and Marlon would buy it by the case -- 24 cans to a case.
